Modelling fluid and particulate flow through a ventriculoperitoneal shunt in a variable temperature environment

چکیده
One of the most prevalent causes failure for a ventriculoperitoneal shunt is blockage, other being infection. This study looks at blockage valve, and whether occlusion valve accelerated by presence an assumes that infection will raise number white blood cells contained in cerebrospinal fluid to fight it thus accelerate occlusion. The experiment simulates system suspending water bath has temperature varies between 37°C 41°C. A computational dynamics model used gain further insight into flow behaviour under these conditions. results CFD were validated using experimental results. There was average error 15% readings obtained model. showed there decrease volume rate outlet system, which not large enough point towards any blockage. Both predictions show increased particulate concentration alone do result occlusion, particularly valve. effectively excluded as region due infection, occurs growth bacteria along surfaces this bacterial more likely occur proximal distal ends system.

Mathematical modelling of Sisko fluid flow through a stenosed artery
In the present study, the nonlinear model of non-Newtonian blood flow in cosine-shape stenosed elastic artery is numerically examined. The model is carried out for axisymmetric, two-dimensional and fully developed blood flow. The vessel wall is assumed to be have time-dependent radius that is important factor for study of blood flow. The cosine-shape stenosis convert to rigid artery by using a ...

متن کاملA Technique for Treatment of Overdrainage in Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt
Background and Importance: Overdrainage is a complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt but adjustable valves and anti-siphon devices can prevent it. These very expensive valves are most often inaccessible, so that the majority of the valves available in Togo are fixed differential pressure valves. Although overdrainage is a widely-known issue, we aimed to introduce a new risk factor and the wa...
متن کاملCerebrospinal fluid ascites: a complication of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
A 1 year old Caucasian male born with an omphalocoele, malrotation of the large bowel, and Ladd's bands developed an E. coli wound infection and subsequent meningitis-ventriculitis which responded to antibiotic therapy. Aqueductal stenosis and obstructive hydrocephalus initially was treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. After a routine diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus immunization, the child d...
متن کاملAcute Epidural Hematoma after Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Insertion: a Case Report
Background & Importance: Acute epidural hematoma is a very rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion. The insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt can cause sudden decompression of the brain, subsequent to which epidural hematoma occurs due to CSF drainage. To our knowledge, there are only a few cases of acute epidural hematoma in the literature which required acute e...
